No two days at The Lantern School are exactly alike, but every day has a rhythm. Children thrive on predictability, and we've built a schedule that balances structure with spaciousness.
A Day at The Lantern School
Morning arrival · 8:30–9:00
Children arrive within a relaxed thirty-minute window and ease into the day with free play, art, helping prepare snack, or connecting with friends. We aim for mornings that feel calm and welcoming rather than rushed.
Circle time and literacy · 9:00–10:00
We begin together with songs, stories, and conversation before moving into literacy instruction. Reading groups are small and tailored to each child’s level, with a strong focus on building skills systematically and confidently.
Snack and movement · 10:00–10:45
Children share snack and have time to move, play, and reset. We see movement as an essential part of learning and development, not something separate from it.
Mathematics · 10:45–11:30
Math is hands-on, interactive, and mastery-based. Children work with concrete materials and real understanding before moving into more abstract concepts, with plenty of room to progress at their own pace. Nobody moves on until they're ready, and nobody is given busy work.
Outdoor time · 11:30–12:30
We spend a full hour outdoors every day, in all seasons, whenever possible. Children need space to run, build, observe, imagine, and move freely, and we see outdoor time as an essential part of a healthy school day rather than a break from it.
Lunch · 12:30–1:15
Lunch is a chance to slow down, eat together, and connect socially. Shared meals are an important part of our community rhythm.
Humanities and enrichments · 1:15–2:15
Afternoons are dedicated to science, history, art, projects, handiwork, and other enrichment experiences that encourage curiosity and creativity. Once a week, children also participate in music instruction with Musicologie.
Closing circle · 2:15–2:30
We end the day together with a short closing circle to reflect, share highlights from the day, and transition home calmly.
